Activities at St. Mark's
Pastoral Care
Are you interested in helping out with pastoral care at St. Mark's? Caring
for shut-ins and parishoners in need of help is an ongoing need. Contact the
Senior Warden if you're interested in helping with this ministry.
Yoga
Bend and stretch each Monday from 10:00-11:15 a.m. in the new Parish Hall
with Sandy Chute, a certified yoga instructor. She has been leading
classes at St. Mark's for several years. All you need to bring is energy
and an exercise mat. Information on instruction fees available at the class.
Going on just about every week:
- Adult Ed: Classes are offered Sundays between services,
so that attendees of either the 8am or 10am services can come.
Classes cover a wide variety of topics. Check the
schedule for more information.
- Rule of Life : We have both men's and women's Rule of Life
groups which meet weekly for prayer and mutual support.
- Cel-ebration groups are small groups which meet together in
informal settings, often individual homes, for prayer, dicussion, and
study. Active groups meet on Monday and Thursday evenings. Each group
has it's own flavor. Anyone is welcome to join in the groups -- or
start up your own!
- Wednesdays, 10:00 am: Services at the
Fairfax Retirement Center
- Holy Folders Thursdays at 9:30 am, stalwart members of the
parish meet to fold the bulletins, socialize, and have tea with the
rector.
The Book Club meets monthly, September through June, to discuss books
of common interest.
The Social Saints host all manner of dinners, providing a great
opportunity for people to enjoy a well-cooked meal and wonderful fellowship.
Social Saints are cooking furiously to raise money for parish programs!
Nursery: Children are always welcomed in church with their parents,
even if they are a little restless (we know they're just kids!!!) but St.
Mark's provides a nursery where the smaller kids can play and make friends,
if you are not comfortable keeping them in church with you. We have a paid
attendant who is there every week, and a great group of volunteer parent
assistants. You don't need to be a parent to volunteer to help, though!
It's a real blessing to be able to show God's love to the very smallest of
God's children and watch them grow into people. Volunteer parents are
scheduled on a rotating basis. The schedule is in the newsletter and is
posted outside the nursery door. If you feel called to assist in this
enjoyable ministry, please contact the church office.
